Karla Spectacular

by cecylia on May 16, 2011

The Karla Spetic show, was hands down one of my favourite shows at RAFW. I have been a huge fan of the talented Croatian-born designer for years, as evident from my blog. Our boutique is her largest stockist in Melbourne, and I must admit, I absolutely adore her clothes. They have a minimalist look that produces maximum impact. Karla’s garments are made in Australia from the finest silks made by the best tailors. Bold, clean and elegant, my favourite combination. Karla’s new SS11/12 collection as shown below, was styled by the amazing fashion editor of InStyle magazine, Tavlin Moline. Here are 4 of my favourite looks, you will definitely see me in these outfits later in the year.

This First Look blew me away. I was fixated on the colours, the patterns and the length! My customers are going to love this outfit!

Pink and tangerine is a marriage in style heaven. The sharp tailored look oozes sophistication and control. Buttons done-up is so sexy right now.

I don’t think I can pull off the lime shirt but these pants are another story. I will be wearing green pants this spring, with lots of white, crisp shirts and sleeveless blazers.

And somewhere in my heart, when I saw this tangerine jumpsuit, I liked toying with the thought that Karla designed this jumpsuit with me in mind. Orange is my favourite colour right now and I’ve always been an advocate for jumpsuits. This jumpsuit is going to be on my must-have list from Karla. To see the full collection, check it out on Vogue here.

How many of the front-rowers can you recognise? I sat opposite Susie Bubble, Jessica Gomez (Ambassador of RAFW) and Napoleon Perdis.

Tavlin’s impeccable styling of Karla’s incredible collection took my breath away. Afterwards I congratulated Karla on her stellar show. She was kind enough to pose for a photo with me. The next day I bumped into Tavlin, in a Karla Spetic Centre-print blazer. I was a little starry-eyed as I am a big fan of this talented stylist. The ultra-beautiful thing is that both ladies hold each other in such high respect. When I spoke to Karla, she said that Tavlin was so amazing and her styling really helped her collection to shine. And when I spoke to Tavlin, she said that it was such a delight and a joy to work with such a gifted fashion designer as Karla. Awww!

You can imagine my pleasant surprise when Tavlin said to me ‘You’re a boutique owner and a blogger? Karla has told me about you!’

Only the good stuff, I hope.

Photo Opportunity

by cecylia on June 10, 2010

Recently a photographer from the Melbourne Weekly magazine paid us a visit and took a stack of photos of our store and our garments. He brought his umbrella over and we had a ball. I didn’t realize that he was here to take photos of me as well…I wish I’d dressed up and made myself look more presentable. Thank God I can hide behind Theodore.

Wearing Spijkers en Spijkers top, an Alldressedup silicon necklace, Felder Felder spikey belt and Zara pants. I worked in the morning as a vet so I look terrible.

I’m sure you know that my all-time favourite accessory has got to be my cute little Theodore. His name is Greek for ‘God’s gift’. The amount of joy he gives to everyone who sees him is immeasurable. My day at the shop is so much fun because of him, even on a rainy and quiet day.

I cannot wait for our boutique to be featured in the Melbourne Weekly. Will let you know when that happens! Hope you’re having a beautiful week.

Love, licks and lollipops

Fish Therapy

by cecylia on September 27, 2009

One of the highlights of the Singapore/Malaysia trip was having my limbs exfoliated at the Fish Spa, by fish. It sounds as weird as it really is- there are fish which eat your dead skin cells to leave you with smoother legs.   I had read about this strange obsession with fish in a SHOP TIL YOU DROP magazine. The Kenko Fish Spa (below) was featured in one the ‘Must-See’ attractions in Kuala Lumpur. Apparently it is Malaysia’s first ever Fish Spa and it is even featured in the country’s Guinness Book of Records (it was on the coffee table in the waiting room).

These photos are taken from Kenko. I spent 30 minutes (38 RM= approx. $13 AU) having my legs polished by Doctor Fish. Why would anyone want fish to be on their skin, you ask. Well, I was attracted to the benefits of this treatment:

  • Natural exfoliation of dead skin – Smoother and healthy glowing skin with easy moisturizer absorption
  • Promote blood circulation – Micro massage sensation from these ‘little masseurs’
  • Lightening of minor scars
  • Easing of psoriasis and minor eczema
  • Release stress and tension – Ticklish sensation causing perpetual laughter!

I guess you could say that I got high on fish.

The first time I tried the ‘Doctor Fish’ was at the Singapore Zoo. I dunked my calves in the enormous fish tank for 10 minutes ($18 Singapore dollars). The sensation is indescribable. Only one word can encompass the brushy, tingly experience: TICKLISH! I giggled like a school girl and almost escaped from the school of fish.

After about a minute, if you just hold on, your legs and feet will tolerate the tickling process. It is like having hundreds of tiny brushes on your limbs. I still let out many bursts of laughter. A fashion magazine helped to distract my brain being glued to the hypersensitivity of my legs. I even took a photo of the magazine I was reading because I realy liked Mischa Barton’s grey suede Coach cape. Kate Boswoth looks amazing in that dress too, but the photo does not do her face justice.

There was a nearby tank with fish 3 times the size of the ones already gnawing at my stratum cornelium (outermost layer of skin), I quivered when I saw the bigger nibblers. But Hubby challenged me so I had no choice. Fearfully, I dipped my toes into the water, the big fish took their time, thank the Lord. My first bite was less painful and less ticklish than expected. It is just a bigger brush.

They are dubbed ‘the dematologists’. The scientific name for these fish is Garra rufa. Here I am giving them a feast.

My legs were really smooth and my feet very relaxed after the treatment. Hubby even got a few ‘waxed’ patches- the fish had eaten some hairs from his calves. It was quite an experience. I definitely will head to a Fish Spa again when I am abroad. Hubby wants to have our own supply of fish so we can invite friends over for ‘dinner’. Also I will never need to shave again.

IMG_3577 Bon Appetit!
