Candidly at Caulfield Cup

by cecylia on October 17, 2011

You may have seen from my Facebook updates lately that I’ve been so blessed to attend the 2011 BMW Caulfield Racing Carnival. I’ve never been to the Races before so you can imagine my excitement and gratitude when I was invited to join the Pegasus Club marquee in ultra fine company with fellow bloggers, stylists, models, actors and TV celebrities. I tried to adhere to the Races dress-code of wearing a knee-length frock which covered my shoulder(s), a head piece, a clutch and heels. Of course I put a quirky and eclectic spin to the ‘typical’ Races dress code and opted for this neon yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress, which apparently was previously worn by Ginnifer Goodwin to Comic-Con 2011. I bought it as a sample from the designer (as I’m supporting Buy Nothing New October). Roksanda didn’t send me the H-shaped feather belt piece, but I had an even more special brooch given to me by my fashion mentors Dean and JC of Madam Virtue to wear.

The  exquisite Lady Melbourne, in vintage and self-made hat and bangles

Phoebe’s self-made pearl bangles, I’m sporting Australian designers Paula Walden piano ring and Estelle Deve cuff

Sarah (Style Melbourne), Ben, Phoebe and I at the Pegasus Club, my head piece kept falling off because I washed my hair and couldn’t find bobby pins to lock it in, so I kept taking it off and putting it on. Here I am sporting it back to front without realising it!

Josh Koko & Phillip Boon, celebrity stylist, looking as sharp as ever

My first-time entering the Chadstone’s Fashion Stakes. I had no idea that the competition involved walking, I thought we just stood on the stage and the judges marked us. My jaw dropped as I found out that we actually have to strut…

I tried my best and was so thankful that I didn’t fall over and had moved from my Heat into the Finals. With gorgeous ladies waiting to be judged.

The 3 finalists from Caulfield Guineas Day, Laura is demure in black and white, adore her heels! Joanne reminds me of Grace Kelly in her beautiful YeoJin Bae dress. I look so bland next to these beautiful ladies, note to self: must wear make-up next week!

After the competition, we were interviewed by the Runner Up of the Face of Caulfield, Maggie, about our inspirations for our outfits. I described mine as ‘a highlighter’.

Bree, the Face of Caulfield, in Gorman, Giaan Rooney, the Ambassador of the Caulfield Races, in Perri Cutten. These ladies are simply sublime!

Last Saturday was the Caulfield Cup, I was ordered to wear the exact same outfit as I’ve been lucky enough to be in the Grand Final for the Chadstone Fashion Stakes, so I apologize for boring you with the same outfit. I learnt from my mistakes from the previous week at Guineas Day so I asked my bestie Vicki to do my make-up and had my head piece properly fitted, by the gorgeous Peter from Salon M. I compeltely forgot to practise my walk though…

My fair lady: Sarah of Style Melbourne

The ever so stylish Phillip Boon, celebrity stylist, in vintage Pierre Cardin

Bloggers Adrian Fernand of I Do Belive I Came With a Hat, Sarah and Luke of D’Marge. Told you I was in fine company. To my stylish male readers, do yourself a favour and check out these boys’ blogs!

Lady Melbourne and I, again in a self-made hat. This girl has style from head to toe.

Anna Mott, of Racing Fashion Victoria, the most amicable and glamorous personality I’ve ever met. Her dazzling couture headpiece is created by the incredibly handsome Brett Morley. I am in love with Anna’s Alexander McQueen silk clutch!

The most stylish couple: Ren and Christian of Style Sage!

Georgia Sinclair, DJ of the Pegasus Club, in Miu Miu shades and Missoni dress

Phillip and Bree, the Face of Caulfield, ladylike and classy. I think together, we have mastered colour-blocking.

Ambassador of the 2011 BMW Caulfield Carnival, Giaan Rooney, such a stunning lady.

The grand Finals of the Fashion Stakes wasn’t until the end of the day. As the hour approached, more butterflies fluttered in my stomach. Nervousness and excitement infiltrated my veins.

Just smile and walk straight and don’t let your head piece fall…

It was a surreal moment when the hosts called out my number, ’4′. I was so honoured to attend the Chadstone Fashion Stakes and to be amongst so many gorgeous ladies, many of which were more deserving of my title. I was stoked to have been awarded 3rd place ’2nd Runner Up’ in the competition. I never thought I would have come thus far. A huge Thank You to Melbourne Racing Club and Style Counsel for having me, to everyone who eased my nerves with your loving, encouraging words and well-wishes, to Sally (Styled by Sally) for lending me her Chanel nail polish, to Vicki for making me look awake, Salon M for fitting my fascinator, to Dean and JC for my beautiful feather brooch and to the judges for being so kind to me. I feel immensely humbled and intensely privileged.

The Caulfield Races has been an experience of a lifetime for me, from the delicious courses at the Ladies luncheons to feeling the adrenaline rush watching the horses race and seeing so many stunningly dressed Race-goers, I have been blown away by the abundance of elegance, extravagance, and ambience!

Sorry to sound like a dork, but out of all the amazing prizes, I’m most excited about my one year subscription to The Age! Hopefully it will improve my morning routine making me rise earlier, eat breakfast and increase my little knowledge of the world.

So that was my weekend, not short of epic. Hope yours was wonderfully charged with love and joy too!

L’Heure du Thé

by cecylia on September 19, 2011

Happy Monday beautiful! I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend! I am about to share with you a truly special event I attended on Saturday. Enjoy! :)

Last weekend I had the greatest pleasure of attending a most glamorous High Tea event at the Langham, was founded and produced by Sha Anderson Le Style, and assisted by public relations Kyra Pybus (Pybus PR). This event was the embodiment of French chic, from the macarons, petite fours conceptualised by French patisserie chef Perrick Boyer, of Le Petite Gateau fame; to a stand by Peony Melbourne Haute Parfumerie who imports the best perfume from around the world, including RancéNapoleon‘s fragrance house which created perfumes for his mistress Josephine; to pretty girls dressed up in French maids costumes, a chocolate Eiffel tower and French parasols, all under the one roof, all to raise funds for Breast Cancer Foundation. Sha’s beautiful Lanvin dress was curtesy of Madam Virtue, a key sponsor of the event.

Kyra, of Pybus PR, flanked by her French maids, dressed by I Heart Dress Up Parties. Now there’s an idea for your next event!

Domain Flowers, who I used to frequent when I was in high school, kindly donated stunning table flower arrangements in giant wine flutes. Visit the most respected and established florist in South Yarra next time you would like to give a thoughtful floral gift.

I am seated next to Nish, Kyra and Yahav. Kyra’s Luca Luca dress is from Yahav’s high end vintage salon, Paris 99, and her Chanel jewellery is from Parisian Street Society. Yahav’s amazing leather ‘watch’ is by Natalia Brilli, the most amazing French leather-ware designer.

Leeyong’s floral dress is so demure, the Style Wilderness blogger’s Chanel perfume brooch is from Japan! Susie’s red beret is trés chic! Ooh la la!

Here I am with Uncle Karl, I mean JC, sporting an enviable array of vintage Chanel accessories. Dean (love his velvet bow tie) and JC own the most incredible boutique in Melbourne, Madam Virtue on 5 Crossley St Melbourne. They are a rare breed of couturiers with current season high end European designers (LANVIN!) and also have the most divine collection of vintage Chanel, Hermes, YSL and many more. Dean and JC travel around the world to bring the best styles to our Melbournian turfs. Jane Hayes (Jane Hayes Consulting) is radiant in her emerald Marc Jacobs silk dress.

This finely curated display of couture dresses comes from Madam Virtue of course. Even Anna Wintour loved this red dress when JC recently showed it to her at New York Fashion Week.

Doesn’t Lisa look ravishin in her Livia Arena dress? The Stylus Muse is one chic lady! The generous Madam Virtue boys have donated these adorable suede Prada wrist cuffs for a lucky winner from the day. They remind me of Wonder Woman!

Here is the beautiful Sarah (Style Melbourne) in her incredible Gorman ‘Backgammon skirt’. Love those colour combinations, it’s like mini-colour-blocking!

Perrick Boyer, the sweets chef responsible for all the delicious goodness we were treated to.

How classy does Sarah (Sarah Style Emporium) in Vivienne Lorikeet, Lady Melbourne, in Chanel accessories curtesy of Parisian Street Society, and Thom (Everyone’s Celebrity), in Ralph Lauren look! It was an absolute charm to catch up with fellow fashion bloggers post MSFW :)

Outfit: Roksanda Ilinic dress (on sale here!), Chanel earrings, vintage choker and bracelet, Chanel bag (from Madam Virtue), Vionnet shoes

Thank you so much to Sha, Kyra and the Langham for having me at this chic and worthwhile event. Please like Le Style’s Facebook page to be kept up to date for these future glamorous events!

LMFF Runway 6 -Presented by Frankie Magazine

by cecylia on March 23, 2011

As you can see, this is another epic post. LMFF‘s Runway shows are so spectacular that it doesn’t do it justice if I don’t post model shots and party people photos! So, welcome to Runway 6, presented by Frankie Magazine featuring Alice McCall, Alpha60, Dhini (wearing our Mawi ring and Felder Felder belt, pictured on my left, my favourite of this list:), Gorman, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Limedrop and Nevenka.

I actually came to Runway 5, which was 2 hours before Runway 6, but I wasn’t allowed in because of Theodore! But I couldn’t leave him in the car for 4 hours! I asked politely if I could bring him in, the staff had a number of people they had to ask to seek permission…someone kindly offered to hold him outside so I could go in, but how can you entrust your son to someone else? If Theodore can’t get in, I won’t go without him. So we stood outside…and missed the show… :(

But thankfully, before Runway 6, the staff got the ‘all-clear’ for Theodore and I to attend together. Yippee!

I was stoked to see the gorgeous Jolet again, you would have seen her in the grey version of her dress in the PHM post.

Also thankfully, we got great seats, so let the show begin!

Dhini started the show with her strong collection, models strutted in her garments so beautifully because Dhini’s designs are not only gorgeous like art, they are comfortable to wear. These are 3 of my favourite looks. Beautiful harem-style pants with luscious drapery details. I love the bindis!

The coolest bag from Alpha60!

The cape dress and the jumpsuit are my favourite looks from Limedrop. How much fun would it be to run down the street in the cape dress!

My favourite ensemble from Kate Sylvester- the sexy secretary. Just add a cami for a ready-to-wear look.

My favourite looks from Karen Walker- it was easy to see that her favourite hue this season is orange. I love the frilly blue hat, and I would wear the orange cardi/skirt outfit any day.

Shhhh….Theodore is sleeping. I don’t know how he stays so calm despite the ear-drum-breaking music.

And lastly, 3 cheery and colourful outfits from Gorman that I would love to wear. I am in awe of those printed pants! Me want!

Who knows, behind the cool exterior Theodore displays, maybe this is how he really feels…

A special thanks to Haley Berryman, Marketing & Communications Executive of LMFF, for having me at the shows. I am enthralled by the fashion festivities this year, the brilliant team LMFF have done a fantastic job for showcasing amazing Australian talent and for getting so many stars to come!

I found this leather fringed one-shoulder dress from a vintage shop a few weeks before LMFF and I knew I’d had to debut it there. So here it is, teamed with vintage YSL necklace, vintage Tippy clutch, MAWI bracelet, Pinkie the Snail ring and Marc Jacobs butterfly heels. And of course, Theodore!

Ah I hope you’ve enjoyed these mammoth posts! Tell me your favourite looks!

Thank you LMFF for letting my ‘son’ attend the runway show, and congratulations to Dhini once again! You rock girl!

Next up- Runway 7- the last, but not the least :)

As soon as I got the program for LMFF, I immediately booked tickets to LMFF’S Opening Runway, Fashion Full Stop : Decades of Australian Fashion & Music. To call it an extravaganza still doesn’t do it justice. It is part fashion parade, part rock concert, and part theatrical spectacular. Famous faces, voices and talents all combined their creativity and originality to produce an epic show that has never been done before- showcasing Australian style and fashion from the 1960′s to today.

As this was a colossal show, hence f this blog post is also going to be pretty massive with a collection of photos from before, during and after the show. Enjoy!

First up, Guy Sebastien crooned whilst models draped in fantastical garments created by Australian icons Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson wowed everyone with their fun, colourful prints that these ladies created which placed Australia on the globe’s fashion radar. I have been wanting to meet Australia fashion’s first-ladies since I first started to read Vogue when I was a teen. My husband has always wanted to find out if Jenny Kee and us are related, turns out no, sadly, we cannot rely on the powers of nepotism :) Ah I was stoked nevertheless to come face to face with these 2 fabulous ladies. Jenny has a biography out, I must get myself a copy!

It was awesome to catch up with Tania at the Penthouse Mouse party, and it was great to see Daniel tonight, with his man-bag. They have just returned from their around-the-world fashion show tour! Always so stylish, Daniel and his gentleman-charm, from Fashionising.

The insanely talented Michelle Jank, who was the stylist for the fashion parade. Along with previous Vogue editor, Nancy Pilcher, the dynamic duo brought us the most amazing runway show I’ve ever seen. Every outfit was so meticulously ensembled. The colours, the textures, the balance, were all so perfect. The mix of vintage with modern was spot-on. Loved everything, especially the ‘denim’ sector, see above.

The incredible Melbourne duo, designer of fantastical frocks, Gwendolyne and Australia’s most high-profile milliner, a Man of Style, with the vastest knowledge of Australian fashion you will ever encounter,  Richard Nylon.

Do you recognise the Gail Sorronda Vashti dress on the singer?

What a pleasure and an honour it is to meet the Editor of Vogue Australia, Kristie Clements again. She is so nice to let me have a photo taken with her, I doubt that Anna Wintour would…

Looks familiar? I loved the insertion of the ballet duo with their romantic dance which accompanied Akira’s pieces – it was an original installation Akira had for his runway show at Rosemount in 2009.

This photo depicts the real models (heads), the enchanting ensembles which are ghost-like and the ballet dancers can be seen in the centre. How artistic!

Hats off to the best-dressed fashion crowd

Another one of my favourite outfits- the multi-coloured feather dress. Ready for take-off!

It was great to bump into the gorgeous Jess of What Would Karl Do, and our stylist friend, Melissa. Ah, my favourite Two Maidens.

The Last Dress

The Grand Finale

The stunning Micah Gianelli from Raww Blog

I wore my favourite Bento Hannah Blouse in Bloom, the Italian silk is stretchy and soft, this blouse literally go with everything! Stay tuned for more styling options with it :) I also wore my vintage Jenny Bannister leather skirt, wanted to debut it to show my support. The skirt is held together by Velcro!

Bento blouse/Jenny Bannister leather skirt/Mawi medallion necklace/Chloe Paddington pumps

What a night! I was so excited during the applauding that I dropped my ipod touch which I used to take notes on and have lost it  :(

Oh and I nearly forgot to mention what a fantastic time I had at ACMI watching the fashion films- I highly recommend all of them! My favourite was ‘Picture Me: A Model’s Diary’, it was so interesting to see the real-life account of an ex-model who was the face of campaigns and walked countless catwalks at Milan, Paris and New York Fashion Weeks, and a little sad to see the dark and exploitive side of the fashion industry…

And now, going to try to squeeze in some sleep before I work as a vet tomorrow, then going to the Forever New parade, and then a showing…
