Front-Rowers of Day One

by cecylia on May 13, 2011

You may recall a babe taking photos of me in my previous post? Well here is Jessie, director of We The People blog- love her combination of leather and fur. Jessie is also featured in this week’s Famous magazine. Each of her outfits inspired me.

And the achingly hip Sam, designer of the hottest eco-friendly Melbourne-based label Bento, who was chased by photographers to get photos of her throughout the week.

Yvan Rodic, the Face Hunter, one of my favourite blogs, takes photos of chic citizens. But I got a photo of him!

And the amazing Frock Writer, Patty Huntington, whose resume is too extensive for me to quote inaccurately. This seasoned fashion journalist is wearing a vintage coat/dress she scored from Shag and her pink pumps are Dolce & Gabbana. Patty and my husband share the same birthday. She was seen dancing between backstage and front-row.

Now here is another journalist lady I must introduce to you. Caroline Attwood, Associate Editor of WGSN. This gorgeous Londoner and I hit it off on first sight. Maybe because the London accent is the only one I can semi-mimick. We met at a show on the first day, then sat next to each other front-row in Gail Sorronda’s show. Thank you Gail! Then for the rest of fashion week, we kept bumping into each other, literally we somehow end up sitting next to each other at every second show! Coincidence?

You know how I super missed my canine son Theodore whilst we were in Sydney? Next time we are so checking into a pet-friendly hotel, although we are pretty attached to Park8 now, maybe the Darlinghurst branch, they love pooches. We met Oliver, the pink Pomeranian whose owner (right), Julien, had a very enviable wardrobe, and Keira, centre, is Oliver’s hair stylist. Oliver was the best behaved Pomeranian I’ve ever met, such a delight to have around. He was better behaved than some kids that came to the shows. Oliver, Julien and Keira was often spotted in the front-row. I think Theodore would have loved Oliver.

Get ready for MSFW!

by cecylia on August 6, 2010

The weather is freezing. The streets are wet and I still have my winter kilos on me. The only signs of spring coming up around the corner are the sheer flowing flags of a beautiful Lucy McIntosh, the Face of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The ads are a little reminiscent of Abbey Lee Kershaw for Gucci’s Flora campaigns.

I was invited to attend the media launch at the Town Hall earlier in the week  to see the Lord Mayor Robert Doyle speak and introduce to the public both the gorgeous Face and the cool Ambassador. Who else best personifies Melbourne style than Melbourne-bred It-Girl Ruby Rose?  Both Lucy and Ruby are beautiful and articulate, and I applaud the committee’s selections. Here are some photos to get you into the blooming mood..

Lucy will be opening and closing a series of the designer runway shows. I’ve already booked for the 2nd show! Cannot wait!!! Lucy looks a dream in a Toni Maticevski dress and jewels from Shag.  She is not just a pretty face, she also has an enviable body and is very eloquent as well. Lucy is recently engaged to Black Eyed Peas DJ Poet, she is actually in search for a wedding dress that will be beautiful and unique enough for her. I’m guessing she will be eyeing Collette Dinnigan and Lisa Ho’s collection very carefully. But she did mention that she would prefer a non-traditional dress, maybe a futuristic Arnsdorf piece?

Ruby’s dress is made by an RMIT student Jack Loder, which you may have already read about in the Monday 2nd August edition of MX. Man, we have some talented emerging young designers in the making! Even Ruby herself is starting her own label. She will be presenting and DJ’ing for the after parties. Is it just me, or has she gotten a lot skinnier?

Another garment that deserves special mention is Shoona’s blue jacket, also made by an RMIT student, Jess Slade. I cannot wait to see the student series catwalk! I love Shoona’s necklace as well!

Sarah – Dhini dress and Etro jacket from Christine

Shoona – Gorman dress, jacket by RMIT student, Jess Slade

Lucy McIntosh – dress: Toni Maticevski, accessories – Shag

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle

Ruby Rose – dress RMIT Student, Jack Loder

Emily – Gorman dress, Akira jacket, Akira leggings

Nerdia – Arnsdorf dress

Luke – Arthur Galan AG

I was lucky to meet the talented stylist Connel Chiang, (you can read more about him here) who created such a bright, colourful and youthful mixture of florals and patterns. He is wearing some silk rose rings from Christine, who was also present at the launch. And I bumped into the beautiful Sarah, of Sarah Style Emporium.

I also befriended 2 lovely fashionistas: Erin, who works for the Herald Sun, and Bronny, of the fabulous online stylist site http://askbronny.com/. I loved their jackets and Erin’s silk top!

Ah…now I just have to get out of my winter flab and slip into something more stylish for the shows. Cannot wait for the 30th August! It will be my first time attending MSFW whole-heartedly. Even though you cannot compare MSFW to London, Paris or Milan Fashion Weeks, MSFW can be my warm-up before I head off to Europe later in the year =)

Who else is going? We should dine together or sit like a front-rower in the back rows together! Don’t forget to doll up and bring your camera! Let me know which shows you’re going to!

love

Cecylia

Jumpsuit for Joy

by cecylia on June 9, 2009

Words cannot describe how much I love jumpsuits. I own at least a dozen of them- denim, black, green, blue, white, grey, and various printed versions. I wear short ones in summer and full-lengths in winter. Is it the way they flaunt your figure or their ease of application? Either way, I guess you will only agree with me if you have tried a jumpsuit. They are my alternative to dresses this season.

There are only 2 rules to the jumpsuit: choose a flattering cut even if means going one size up(the looser the garment, the thinner you appear!) and always wear long jumpsuits with heels.

If you hold a prejudiced view against jumpsuits. I hope the following photos will change your view and  life forever.

stella-mccartney-awesome-onepiece

A glammed-up version in classic black, by Stella McCartney.  Puffy sleeves are optional, sharp heels are not.

eva-in-black-jumpsuit

You can tell by her smart and polished style that this is a Parisian chick. Eva is a regular on thesartorialist.com. I love the tuxedo tailoring of this gorgeous jumpsuit. Eva, please tell me where you got it from.

bcbg-max-azria-satiny

Please focus on BCBG Max Azria’s silky grey one-piece worn by Aussie model Abbey Lee Kershaw.  See what I mean by heels? The belt accentuates her tiny waist and those leather sandals raises her to great heights.

thandie-lookalike

Here is a demonstration of a Thandie Newton-lookalike sporting the ready-to-wear grey jumpsuit. The buttersoft leather jacket with rolled-up sleeves and her black clutch adds an air of sophistication to her fun one-piece suit. This beautiful lady has refined taste. I like.

louis-vuitton-resortm-09

The gorgeous Natasha Poly in a magenta silk jumpsuit for the resort collection from Louis Vouitton 09. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? A must-have piece for going to anywhere and everywhere balmy and exotic. Love the deep pockets and the golden wedges.

trish-goff-in-jumpsuit

Former American model Trish Goff, now front-row seater at fashion shows also pays patronage to the jumpsuit in a peach number. What’s not to love? The colour is a smash hit and the biker-details are super hot. Warning: highly rockable and may evoke too many admiring glances. Next to Trish, Daisy Lowe looks on enviously.
