Basket Case

by cecylia on January 9, 2012

Hello lovelies! Did you enjoy your weekend? We’ve been very blessed with fine weather here in Melbourne. Summer is hands down my favourite season. It is closely associated with sun, fun, ice cream and fresh fruits. Some of my most beloved fashion pieces are summer essentials, such as anything silk (shirts, skirts, dresses, shorts, pants), espadrilles and straw baskets.

As you may recall I started 2012 going to the library with my wicker basket bag, here is the mini version of a vintage tote I’ve had for a while. Basket bags are all hand-made so they are the epitome of artistic prowess of rural parts of the world. These bags may not be able to carry heavy objects like your laptop or a hard-cover book but they are sturdy enough for a phone, wallet and candy, and they make their wearer appear environmentally-friendly and well-travelled.

I have a very soft spot for printed shirts and this Kyla Crozier silk shirt is a current favourite. I feel very patriotic wearing it. Made in Australia, the Sydney designer was inspired by Aussie native flora, can you decipher the vast assemblage of plant species on it? It’s as light as a feather if it weren’t for the metal buttons. Attention to detail indeedy.

What do you think of the A-line silk skirt? The exquisitely cut Violet & I olive Mallorca skirt is ultra-flattering. And how can I resist double layered silk? The advantages are two-fold, layers reduce transparency and the inner offer a dreamy touch to anyone’s thighs.

One of my best friends, Lisa, gave me this red leather belt (similar one here) nearly 2 decades ago, I didn’t appreciate it back as a teen but now I’m considering giving it heirloom status.

It wasn’t difficult blending these pieces together. I started with the Violet & I skirt, found a shirt with a harmonizing print and added accessories with complimentary tones. I usually get dressed within 5 minutes.

Wear: Vintage sunnies, earrings, bag + belt,  Kyla Krozier silk shirt (last seen here), Panache LingerieViolet & I silk skirt, Urban Soul espadrilles

First Day in Milan

by cecylia on October 3, 2010

Greetings from Milan! Have I ever told you my ‘ultimate perfect day’? Well there are many ways to spend an ideal day but for it to be perfect, the most important ingredient would have to be a vintage market of some sort.

And I was so blessed to spend my first day in Milan at the Mercatone del Naviglio Grande. The coincidental thing is that this market only occurs once a month on the last Sunday starting in September. So not only was I lucky enough to catch it on my short stay in Milan, the market itself was just a stroll away from where I stayed! Well when I say stroll I mean about 1km. But there’s nowhere my Repettos can’t take me. These trusty ballet flats helped me survive the plane ride as well as 3 days straight of walking!

There are over 400 stalls! I was in vintage heaven.

A gentlemen wearing cute animals (mainly dogs, but some pigs seemed to have made it into the mix) walked past me so I grabbed him for a photo. And if you are really observant then you would have noticed an addition to my outift- the golden belt. A market souvenir =) There is a really sweet (and super crammed) vintage store on this street that houses some fine vintage gems. I also found a mint condition YSL dress there. The lady who owns the shop is so lovely and some how she knew right away that I ‘worked in fashion’…There were so many pieces to tempt me and I spent more than an hour in less than a small room rummaging through and trying everything on. The vintage bags were so enticing too but I had to stay faithful to my lovely vintage Nina Ricci.

This lady is the creator of the red chair and not only did her lovely smile catch my attention, so did her earrings and her espadrilles. She’s holding my card upside-down…but let’s not nit-pick.

What a lady, love her crazy accessories. I bought a pair of Valentino sunnies from the same stall she got hers from. But my hubbie has stolen them.

Dress: Felder Felder, necklace: Natalia Brilli, belt: vintage, bag: Vintage Nina Ricci, shoes: repetto

After a major day at the markets, we ate gelati- only 2.50 Euros for 3 scoops!!! What a bargain! I wish I could eat it everyday!

Thank the Lord for such a perfect day- perfect weather, perfect scenery and perfect company.

Nevertheless I’m already homesick! Hope you are all well in Melbourne, how’s the weather like?

Pairing Up

by cecylia on June 15, 2009

I have posted about many stylish women and their outfits. This article is slightly different- the focus is on what they are BOTH wearing. I’m dedicating it to all of the fashionable pairs on the streets. It’s a gem to see one who knows how to dress it and flaunt it, but a pair of well-dressed besties, is a rare jewel. I’ve included a couple pairs of  sleek and slick fashionistas. Did they copy each other’s style diaries? Do they share the same stylist? Do they access to the same wardrobe? You decide. These beautiful photographs are compiled from The Sartorialist and Elle Street Chic.

2waist-or-not-2-waistOlivia Chantecaille and a ftrendy friend. Toned, tanned and terrific, check. Scoop-neck and shoulder-less, check. Hems above the knee, check. Dark sunnies, check. Luscious wavy dark locks, check. Heels in matching colours, check. Smile for The Sartorialist, check. Classic and elegant, they look a million bucks. But then again, they are worth millions of bucks.

is-that-3-layers

I particularly like the girl on the left. I really like the waist coat, which has modernised the traditional summery cami+mini-look.  I like the rope-strap of her bag and the colour of her skirt, minty!

2-minisAnother example of friendship dressing- same hair, same sunnies, same figure, same clutch, same hem-length, same sandals- T-bar and gold. Not sure if the dress on the left is a 2-piece (navy singlet over minidress with ruffled hem) incely cinched at her slim waist. or a single entity. I’m definitely going to mental note this outfit, although the skulled brown mini is supa-dupa cute too. Ahh, Europeans. They certainly know to how dress.

Here is a worms-eye-view on  2 Aussie models who is clearly enjoying showing us how to dress short and sweet. Slender limbs, check. Model friend, check. Big designer carry-all, chec. Flats (coz I’m 6 feet already), check. I’m sure you can guess which gal i think is better-dressed. Love the details on the tunic dress and the burnt-orange patentleather tote.

stylish-pedalpushers

Another toned pair- one proud of her creamy skin and the other embracing the sun-kissed look. What a chic pedal-pusher! I have to admit, black espadrilles will never date. Looks like she went fishing and caught some handbag must-haves.

Hand-held he-and-she buttersoft bag, check. Funky shoes, check.  My favourites would be her gladiators and his bag. I can definitely mimic this look ( c’mon, we’ve all got grey and black basics), it’s just a matter of persuading my man to carry a man-bag.
