Get ready for MSFW!

by cecylia on August 6, 2010

The weather is freezing. The streets are wet and I still have my winter kilos on me. The only signs of spring coming up around the corner are the sheer flowing flags of a beautiful Lucy McIntosh, the Face of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The ads are a little reminiscent of Abbey Lee Kershaw for Gucci’s Flora campaigns.

I was invited to attend the media launch at the Town Hall earlier in the week  to see the Lord Mayor Robert Doyle speak and introduce to the public both the gorgeous Face and the cool Ambassador. Who else best personifies Melbourne style than Melbourne-bred It-Girl Ruby Rose?  Both Lucy and Ruby are beautiful and articulate, and I applaud the committee’s selections. Here are some photos to get you into the blooming mood..

Lucy will be opening and closing a series of the designer runway shows. I’ve already booked for the 2nd show! Cannot wait!!! Lucy looks a dream in a Toni Maticevski dress and jewels from Shag.  She is not just a pretty face, she also has an enviable body and is very eloquent as well. Lucy is recently engaged to Black Eyed Peas DJ Poet, she is actually in search for a wedding dress that will be beautiful and unique enough for her. I’m guessing she will be eyeing Collette Dinnigan and Lisa Ho’s collection very carefully. But she did mention that she would prefer a non-traditional dress, maybe a futuristic Arnsdorf piece?

Ruby’s dress is made by an RMIT student Jack Loder, which you may have already read about in the Monday 2nd August edition of MX. Man, we have some talented emerging young designers in the making! Even Ruby herself is starting her own label. She will be presenting and DJ’ing for the after parties. Is it just me, or has she gotten a lot skinnier?

Another garment that deserves special mention is Shoona’s blue jacket, also made by an RMIT student, Jess Slade. I cannot wait to see the student series catwalk! I love Shoona’s necklace as well!

Sarah – Dhini dress and Etro jacket from Christine

Shoona – Gorman dress, jacket by RMIT student, Jess Slade

Lucy McIntosh – dress: Toni Maticevski, accessories – Shag

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle

Ruby Rose – dress RMIT Student, Jack Loder

Emily – Gorman dress, Akira jacket, Akira leggings

Nerdia – Arnsdorf dress

Luke – Arthur Galan AG

I was lucky to meet the talented stylist Connel Chiang, (you can read more about him here) who created such a bright, colourful and youthful mixture of florals and patterns. He is wearing some silk rose rings from Christine, who was also present at the launch. And I bumped into the beautiful Sarah, of Sarah Style Emporium.

I also befriended 2 lovely fashionistas: Erin, who works for the Herald Sun, and Bronny, of the fabulous online stylist site http://askbronny.com/. I loved their jackets and Erin’s silk top!

Ah…now I just have to get out of my winter flab and slip into something more stylish for the shows. Cannot wait for the 30th August! It will be my first time attending MSFW whole-heartedly. Even though you cannot compare MSFW to London, Paris or Milan Fashion Weeks, MSFW can be my warm-up before I head off to Europe later in the year =)

Who else is going? We should dine together or sit like a front-rower in the back rows together! Don’t forget to doll up and bring your camera! Let me know which shows you’re going to!

love

Cecylia

The 3 Sisters Strike again

by cecylia on June 15, 2010

I gotta tell you, these 3 sisters are my muses. I look forward to changing their outfits every week. This time I concentrated on 3 designer labels.

1. Spijkers en Spijkers silk-blend dress with Alldressedup necklace and silicon bow belt

2. Alldressedup top and pants; Gail Sorronda silk jacket in the third picture, it is utterly heavenly

3. Alldressedup top and silicon and perspex necklace, Felder Felder ring skirt (my favourite piece from their SS10 collection)

Hang Servane Gaxotte around your neck

by cecylia on March 31, 2010

It was freezing in Paris when I went for Fashion Week. I spent a significant of time at Premiere Classe, the accessories show room in Paris. It was situated west of the Lourve and north of the Tuileries Garden. I came across an extremely cute jewelery designer by the name of Servane Gaxotte. Her stand was just divine. Large pendants of litle girls or aniams dressed in hand-knitted dresses hang from silver chains. They were also made into keyrings. Every design was different and I was head over heels.

Servane Gaxotte set up her own accessories company in 1996 after successfully proposing some themes to fashion labels agnés b. and Maria Luisa, and the Parisian jet-setters. Her accessories are girly with a dark poetic edge. The current collection is reminiscent of her strong taste for an everlasting childhood. You will soon see the evidence.

All her designs are made with sterling silver.

Did you see the heart locks the ladies are holding as hand bags? These are too cute! I love the little miss piggy.

I just watched the Fantastic Mr Fox (on the long flight back to Melbourne) and these designs remind me of my new favourite film! My favourite scene in the movie is the one of them dancing in the supermarket at the end. My favourite character was Kristoffers0n.

If you haven’t heard of the movie or the jewelery designer, I hope I have added a big grin to your face. =)

Behind the Doors

by cecylia on October 22, 2009

This follows from my previous post, here is the view BEHIND the door.

The very next day after I arrive in Singapore, my auntie took me to a bi-annual vintage designer sale. It only lasts for 3 days and I happened to get there on the first day. What are the chances? Thank you Lord. You know, as Homer Simpson says, ‘the early bird gets the fancy donut.’

As you step into the shop,  hundreds of mint-conditioned designer fashion stare at you. The garments are arranged in style and shoes in size.  I was like a little kid walking into a candy store. I didn’t know where to look. I even pulled out my glasses to study each carefully. They were mainly Italian and French designer wear.

IMG_3199

IMG_3198 The lovely dresses along the wall are all new designer gear- all accessible via Net-a-Porter. I am a vintage lover so I purchased mainly vintage pieces. The only catch to this store is that you are not allowed to try garments on. You can try jackets, shoes and accessories but not tops/dresses/pants. I cheated and put a skirt over my jumpsuit. I was there for hours, deciding between all the goodies I found. There were some Bally shoes which I loved but were not my size, some awesome Versace pants which I was afraid may not fit me since I cannot try them on and I had a real hard time choosing between a mustard YSL bag and a vintage Chloe. After um-ing and ah-ing over so many things, I selected a couple of pieces, my favourite is the  peach Christian Dior skirt suit (it has little black bows and is just stunning, it belongs in a museum!). I have to take a photo of it and show you.

I cannot wait to go again next time. The shop assistants are very helpful. They actually specialize in tailoring…
