Don’t Call Me Baby

by cecylia on August 17, 2011

I went to a Baby Shower for the first time over the weekend- the lucky mother-to-be is none other than my beautiful friend Karen of Finessence Photography. See our collaborations here, here, here and here…and more…Karen and I met at my first bloggerversary party (See here) and for the past year we have been inseparable. I am so blessed to have her as a friend and to be continuously inspired by her amazing work. Karen is going to be a yummy mummy soon!

I’m not getting clucky, I’m just admiring all the gorgeous photos on the Finessence Phography studio walls. I have my baby right here with me- Theodore! And of course, my baby behind the lens :)

I’ve never been to a baby-shower before, was thinking ‘what to wear?’ when I spotted my beloved Chloe dress and thought my new Bordeau Rue Bebelon booties from Habbot Studios would be a match in heaven. These are my favourite shoes I’ve purchased this year, they are so chic, comfortable and go with so many pieces in my wardrobe. Did I mention that they are on sale as well? They are 50%off! You can get a pair from their online store or come to Habbot’s POP UP STORE from Thursday 18th August until 30th September on level 1 of GPO opposite Belinda! Come before you miss out on your size! I’ll definitely be popping in soon!

Another lady I greatly admire and who never stops to have me in awe is Super Kawaii Mama, the divine Candice De Ville. She really is the ambassador of Glamour. She recently styled Karen for a vintage-inspired shoot to treasure the last trimester days of Karen’s fist child, the photos are breath-taking.

You are probably wondering we’re all wearing pegs. We played a game of ‘baby taboo’ where we were not allowed to say the word ‘baby’ and its variations. Should we accidently let is slip, we had to give our peg to the person who caught us out. Since I was one of the only non-mothers around and the word ‘baby’ is rarely in my vocab unless I’m speaking to my hubby, I just went around and asked everyone who had a child or was pregnant about their kid, and sure enough they all had to hand me their pegs within 5 minutes into our conversations. In the end I had 7 clips on my scarf. So yes, I won the ‘no-mention-of-baby’ game.

Outfit: Chloe dress, Habbot Studios shoes, on sale here! Vintage coat, bag, accessories

Thank you Karen for sharing this special day with us. I am praying for the safe delivery of your little bubba and for your amazing journey ahead. If it’s she is a girl, auntie Cecylia is going to have so much fun dressing her up!

I’ve contacted the winner who has scored herself a ticket to Mercedez-Benz Fashion Festival’s Grand finale show.  Have a great time darl! I hope you are all having a gorgeous week. I’ve been working hard at the vets this week, cannot wait for Forever New’s launch tomorrow night! Now what to wear…

Reverie Love

by cecylia on July 8, 2011

Recently I fell in love with yet another talented Australian-made Australian label, Reverie. ‘Reverie’ is French for ‘day-dreaming‘ . It’s so great that there are still talented designers in our country that work with Australian manufacturers. We need to get behind them and support them! Before the Australian fashion manufacturing industry becomes extinct…

Anyway, sorry for the rant, you may have gathered that I’m very passionate about this issue. The Reverie collection is simple, elegant and totally wearable. I am besotted with the blue ‘Elysee blouse’. The silk is so tenderly soft and the hue of the shirt makes it a dream-piece in my wardrobe. It goes with everything! You may recall I even wore it with a pair of trackies a while back, see here.

Recently I went to a friend’s engagement party so I teamed the Reverie silk blouse with my cream cashmere Karla Spetic skirt, a bow necklace I made and an ivory and silk tassel necklace.

I had to get some snaps of some of the stylish guests. This lady’s mustard Lisa Ho jacket is eye candy! Everyone thought it was either Chanel or Chloe.

The new fiancee and I – this stunner purchased her olive Alldressedup silk dress from our boutique.

Amanda was just telling me that she is a frequent reader of my blog, so I had to feature her on it! This smart cookie is a lawyer and an ex-model. Love her tights!

You know I love colour, especially in winter. Colour is the secret ingredient of happiness in our lives.

So what are you all up to this weekend? I’ll be working at the vets and meeting friends for dinners. Hope the weather is mighty fine and you get to spend the weekend with many of your loved ones!

What I’m wearing: Karla Spetic knitted skirt (as scarf), Reverie silk blouse, vintage necklaces, bag and coat, Paula Walden ring, Karla Spetic cashmere skirt, Country Road pumps

My Lust List at ML Vintage

by cecylia on July 6, 2011

Hello everyone! How is your week travelling? Thank you for your kind birthday wishes, I may be one year older, but thanks to the amazing company I’m surrounded with, I don’t feel it :P This is the third and final post on the amazing ML Vintage boutique, the vintage mecca of Australia. All photos are thanks to Finessence Photography. Cheers Karen!

This vintage Chloe leather skirt is softer than butter, it even has pockets!

This orange Courreges dress was probably my favourite piece in the shop. It’s high up on my lust-list! Mary also has it in other hues, green, blue, mint, red…like I said, this is candy land!

How sweet is this Valentino sweater? As you know, Tutti Fruitty is a big trend right now. This vintage number just proves once again the fashion cycle.

This Krizia skirt is absolutely divine, look at the details! I teamed it with a Missoni scarf and a vintage belt to die for.

Gorgeous Missoni poncho, this would be the perfect travel companion on flights! So comfortable and fun!

There are thousands of pieces waiting to be purchased by fashionistas, everything is immaculately preserved over the decades. I was besotted with Mary’s leather skirts, cute Valentino jumper, Missoni scarves and warps and the bright orange Couregges dress. These are on my wish-list :)

Thank you Karen for these beautiful photographs  and thank you Mary for your kind hospitality and for showing us your amazing boutique. We will be back, very soon!

What I wore: Bento silk blouse, vintage jacket, pants, necklace and bag, Damselfly ring, Viktor & Rolf silk bracelet and Country Road shoes

Wish I was wearing: Mary’s pieces!

Kyla Crozier – label to watch

by cecylia on June 27, 2011

Hello everyone! How was your weekend? I had the best time at Take 2 Market on Sunday, thank you so much for your support in helping me detox my wardrobe, hope you enjoy all of your new purchases! :)

Recently a gorgeous young Aussie designer found me over the cyberspace and introduced her label to me. Her beautiful look book with Australia flora caught my eye.  The inspiration from Kyla Crozier‘s SS11/12 collection ‘Where the Heart Is’ stemmed from one of her tea towels! Here she graciously answers some questions to satisfy my curiosity about her collection and how she came to be a fashion designer.

How long have you been a fashion designer, and how made you become one?
I think I first started designing when I was 14. I was very excited about the school formal and I remember sitting around the kitchen table with my girlfriends sketching the dresses we wanted to wear. I think that’s when it clicked. I’d always loved beautiful things and was always creating, whether it was through dance or drawing, but it all seemed to make sense as soon as I focused on clothes. Summer is my second collection under my own name so I haven’t been doing this for long at all. I studied at East Sydney and went on to work in the industry as a design assistant so I’ve always been surrounded by design.

What was the inspiration behind this collection? Why were Australian flora used?

The inspiration began with the colour palette. On my way home to where I grew up, I drive through a stretch of national park. The landscape is beautiful, the colours of the huge gums, native flowers, burnt trunks of trees after the summer back burning and the bright blue sky cracking through the tree tops is where I drew the colour palette from. This theme began to grow inside my thoughts but only came to its full fruition when I stumbled across the Australiana tea towels. I took these kitsch Australiana tea towels and adapted these into the Flora print, combining different flora and fauna from all of the tea towels into one original print. Keeping with the Australiana theme I decided to create an original print of my own, for this I looked to the bottlebrush flower. Sketching out sketch after sketch I developed a modern floral print, keeping the colours quite minimal the print became a subtle take on a traditional floral. So in short the inspiration came from home and the environment around me, that’s how I came to the collection name ‘where the heart is’ like the saying ‘Home is where the heart is’.

What are your favourite pieces from your collection and why?

The Flora blouse is my absolute favourite, the print works so well on the soft silk georgette, it’s pretty without being overly feminine. It also has a timeless quality, and I can see myself wearing this for years to come.
I love the Flora Shift Dress and Flora shift top I’m just so happy with the print!
The bottlebrush story is another favourite, the red is so vibrant and the print is very subtle the colours seem to blend together and on close inspection you can see the detail that has gone into the design.

Who inspires you? Do you have a muse or favourite designers you look up to?

My girlfriends are a constant inspiration, I design clothes that I can see myself and them wearing. I like designs that are accessible and classic, I always keep this at the forefront of my mind, I think dressing should be easy. Inspiration can really stem from anywhere, a picture I see in a magazine, a girl on the street, music or film, there is inspiration all around us sometimes it can be hard to turn off. My favourite designers would have to be Isabel Marant and Chloe, both labels offer simple beautiful clothes, Kenzo for their amazing prints. Back home here in Australia, Easton Pearson are always showcasing beautiful prints.

What do you do in your spare time when you are not designing?

Cook, I absolutely love to cook! I find it the best way to clear my mind and relax. Reading is also high on the list, and when I have time I love taking a dance class with friends.

Kyla lent me her blouse for this blog post. I was in awe of the print and the soft silk she used. I hope the photos does it justice. Want to see my full outfit? The next blog post shall reveal all!
