Edenborough Evans, an Italian Love Affair

by cecylia on October 26, 2011

Ciao bella! Can you believe that it’s actually spring in Melbourne? But the weather here is like a flexible gymnast who is a keen show-off. I had a cold not long ago so have learnt (via the hard way) the importance of keeping warm. So here I am, layered up, in the middle of Spring. I recently found these vintage Moschino pants I’ve had for years (last time I wore them was 3 years ago in Dublin) and have refriended them. The scarf is a new addition from the local op-shop, Italians sure know how to make their knits.

I mentioned an Edenborough Evans necklace I got from Arabella Ramsay in this post. The jewellery are wearable pieces of art blending opulent Florentine designs with Melbourne street style, totally up my alley. Anna Cowen, the designer, is a Melbourne-based Visual Arts graduate who trained in Italy, and has her jewels stocked in boutiques from Paris to New York. One of Edenborough Evans’ devotees is none other than the stunning fashionista Ruby Rose, who is also an avid supporter of fine Australian designers. Here is a closer view of the self-engraved sterling silver necklace, oh no still a little blurry… Hammering ’10 Nov 07′, our wedding anniversary date, onto the plate was no easy feat, but hubby did very well. It really is a test of your concentration skills and a nouveau experience not to be missed!

Outfit: Vintage sunnies, Chloe jacket (last seen here), Miss Sixty jumper, Moschino pants, Edenborough Evans necklace, vintage ivory/tassel necklace (last seen here), Damselfly ring, vintage scarf, Repetto shoes

Hammer your very own Edenborough Evans necklace at the whimsical Arabella Ramsay store

1073 High St Armadale Tel: 03 9824 4490

See Edenborough Evans’ full collection on their online store here, trust me you are in for a treat!

And by the way, for those of you who are wondering why I never talk about my boutique anymore, you can find out why here. I’m fine, don’t worry about me, I just feel so incredibly blessed by the whole experience and for your amazing support. So thank you so much dear ones. And who knows what the future may hold for Cecylia? Guess you’ll just have to keep reading and find out :)

Candidly at Caulfield Cup

by cecylia on October 17, 2011

You may have seen from my Facebook updates lately that I’ve been so blessed to attend the 2011 BMW Caulfield Racing Carnival. I’ve never been to the Races before so you can imagine my excitement and gratitude when I was invited to join the Pegasus Club marquee in ultra fine company with fellow bloggers, stylists, models, actors and TV celebrities. I tried to adhere to the Races dress-code of wearing a knee-length frock which covered my shoulder(s), a head piece, a clutch and heels. Of course I put a quirky and eclectic spin to the ‘typical’ Races dress code and opted for this neon yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress, which apparently was previously worn by Ginnifer Goodwin to Comic-Con 2011. I bought it as a sample from the designer (as I’m supporting Buy Nothing New October). Roksanda didn’t send me the H-shaped feather belt piece, but I had an even more special brooch given to me by my fashion mentors Dean and JC of Madam Virtue to wear.

The  exquisite Lady Melbourne, in vintage and self-made hat and bangles

Phoebe’s self-made pearl bangles, I’m sporting Australian designers Paula Walden piano ring and Estelle Deve cuff

Sarah (Style Melbourne), Ben, Phoebe and I at the Pegasus Club, my head piece kept falling off because I washed my hair and couldn’t find bobby pins to lock it in, so I kept taking it off and putting it on. Here I am sporting it back to front without realising it!

Josh Koko & Phillip Boon, celebrity stylist, looking as sharp as ever

My first-time entering the Chadstone’s Fashion Stakes. I had no idea that the competition involved walking, I thought we just stood on the stage and the judges marked us. My jaw dropped as I found out that we actually have to strut…

I tried my best and was so thankful that I didn’t fall over and had moved from my Heat into the Finals. With gorgeous ladies waiting to be judged.

The 3 finalists from Caulfield Guineas Day, Laura is demure in black and white, adore her heels! Joanne reminds me of Grace Kelly in her beautiful YeoJin Bae dress. I look so bland next to these beautiful ladies, note to self: must wear make-up next week!

After the competition, we were interviewed by the Runner Up of the Face of Caulfield, Maggie, about our inspirations for our outfits. I described mine as ‘a highlighter’.

Bree, the Face of Caulfield, in Gorman, Giaan Rooney, the Ambassador of the Caulfield Races, in Perri Cutten. These ladies are simply sublime!

Last Saturday was the Caulfield Cup, I was ordered to wear the exact same outfit as I’ve been lucky enough to be in the Grand Final for the Chadstone Fashion Stakes, so I apologize for boring you with the same outfit. I learnt from my mistakes from the previous week at Guineas Day so I asked my bestie Vicki to do my make-up and had my head piece properly fitted, by the gorgeous Peter from Salon M. I compeltely forgot to practise my walk though…

My fair lady: Sarah of Style Melbourne

The ever so stylish Phillip Boon, celebrity stylist, in vintage Pierre Cardin

Bloggers Adrian Fernand of I Do Belive I Came With a Hat, Sarah and Luke of D’Marge. Told you I was in fine company. To my stylish male readers, do yourself a favour and check out these boys’ blogs!

Lady Melbourne and I, again in a self-made hat. This girl has style from head to toe.

Anna Mott, of Racing Fashion Victoria, the most amicable and glamorous personality I’ve ever met. Her dazzling couture headpiece is created by the incredibly handsome Brett Morley. I am in love with Anna’s Alexander McQueen silk clutch!

The most stylish couple: Ren and Christian of Style Sage!

Georgia Sinclair, DJ of the Pegasus Club, in Miu Miu shades and Missoni dress

Phillip and Bree, the Face of Caulfield, ladylike and classy. I think together, we have mastered colour-blocking.

Ambassador of the 2011 BMW Caulfield Carnival, Giaan Rooney, such a stunning lady.

The grand Finals of the Fashion Stakes wasn’t until the end of the day. As the hour approached, more butterflies fluttered in my stomach. Nervousness and excitement infiltrated my veins.

Just smile and walk straight and don’t let your head piece fall…

It was a surreal moment when the hosts called out my number, ’4′. I was so honoured to attend the Chadstone Fashion Stakes and to be amongst so many gorgeous ladies, many of which were more deserving of my title. I was stoked to have been awarded 3rd place ’2nd Runner Up’ in the competition. I never thought I would have come thus far. A huge Thank You to Melbourne Racing Club and Style Counsel for having me, to everyone who eased my nerves with your loving, encouraging words and well-wishes, to Sally (Styled by Sally) for lending me her Chanel nail polish, to Vicki for making me look awake, Salon M for fitting my fascinator, to Dean and JC for my beautiful feather brooch and to the judges for being so kind to me. I feel immensely humbled and intensely privileged.

The Caulfield Races has been an experience of a lifetime for me, from the delicious courses at the Ladies luncheons to feeling the adrenaline rush watching the horses race and seeing so many stunningly dressed Race-goers, I have been blown away by the abundance of elegance, extravagance, and ambience!

Sorry to sound like a dork, but out of all the amazing prizes, I’m most excited about my one year subscription to The Age! Hopefully it will improve my morning routine making me rise earlier, eat breakfast and increase my little knowledge of the world.

So that was my weekend, not short of epic. Hope yours was wonderfully charged with love and joy too!

His: H&M hat, Country Road suit, Coton Doux shirt, Vivienne Westwood tie, Arabella Ramsay pocketchief, Jil Sander shoes

Hers: Paula Walden Bow headpiece, vintage earrings, Roksanda Ilincic silk gazar dress, Madam Virtue feather brooch, Paula Walden piano ring, Estelle Deve cuff, vintage clutch, Chloe heels

Premiere of Surviving Georgia

by cecylia on October 9, 2011

As mentioned in this post, I had the privilege of attending the Premiere of Surviving Georgia last week. I worked as a vet in the morning, went home for a nap, pulled out my favourite Kathryn Beker dress, got ready in 5 minutes and had to beat the rush-hour traffic. Unfortunately the traffic jam triumphed, I missed out on seeing Rose Byrne….*sobs* BUT I was equally excited to see Pia Miranda, and all of my lovely friends!

The Co-Director and Producer, Kate Whitbread (in Lisa Baron), Actress Pia Miranda (in Lee Matthews), Co-Director and Writer, Sandra Sciberras (also in Lisa Barron), and Jane Hayes, in Alexander Mcqueen, (I adore her Phillip Lim neoprene clutch!) who styled these gorgeous ladies. Hands together to Jane for an incredible styling job! All of these ladies’ jewels are from the Parisian Street Society.

Lisa, looking ravishing in her red silk Carla Zampatti dress, sure lives up to her title as the Stylus Muse!

Iolanthe (Ruby Slipper Consultants) in DVF, Jane (Jane Hayes Consulting), Lisa (Stylus Muse), Kyra (Pybus PR), in Madam Virtue, and I. Such a colourful line-up!

What a treat it was to have the Producers of the film, Kate Whitbread and Spencer McLaren (also a main actor in the movie) introduce the film, set in the lovely town of Warburton.

Q & A session with a stellar cast: Toby Wallace, Pia Miranda, Andrew Martin, Spencer McLaren and directors Kate Whitbread and Sandra Sciberras. Many other actors including Holly Valance, could not make it to the Premiere as they are currently working overseas. Surving Georgia moved me to the edge of the seat in anticipation, moved me to tears (and also tears of joy) and moved the crowd to laughter. Definitely to be watched, and prepared to be moved!

Outift:  vintage Saba jacket, Kathryn Beker silk/feather dress, vintage earrings, brooch, clutch, YSL ringGhost & Lola bracelet, Chloe stillettos (From Net-a-Porter)

What do you think of this amazing Kathryn Beker dress? I tried to balance out the ultra-feminine frock with a manly tux jacket and some hardcore heels. I admit that they are not the easiest heels to walk in, but I’m always up for a challenge! My outfits are not complete without colour so I added some orange and pink accessories. So in love with this Ghost & Lola bracelet, it is a remade vintage piece, very eco-conscious and chic! Getting pieces from them is still fine for ‘Buy Nothing New October’ :)

Special thanks to Kyra and Louise for the kind invitation, what an honour it was to experience this beautiful film. Head to see Surviving Georgia, in all great cinemas from October 13th.

Buy Nothing New Frock Swap

by cecylia on October 4, 2011

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending a Frock Swap soiree at Kyra Pybus’ place with hubby and Theodore. Kyra, the PR guru of Pybus PR, Jane, of Jane Hayes Consulting, and Iolanthe, the Ruby Slipper Consultant, organised this beautiful event to kick off ‘Buy Nothing New October’ as we embrace eco-aware consumerism and cleverly recycled designs. We have all pledged to buy nothing new this month, except for food and drinks…

All loved up for the lovebird, ‘Beaky’.
We were treated to delicious nibblies, French bubbly, and the decadent ambience of Kyra and Nish’s inviting home. Their apartment had the luxurious woody scent of Cire Trudon’s Ernesto‘, courtesy of Peony Melbourne. Cire Trudon candles are made from rice, soy and coprah, contain no nasty chemicals which harm our environment. The candle house has supplied and manufactured for the the Royal family in Versailles since the 17th century, and nowadays for the big maisons including Hermes, Cartier, Dior and Guerlain. I think a visit to Peony Melbourne is a must! Scented candles are the ultimate mood-lifter!
Another decadent touch to the event was the husk boat floral arrangement by Domain Flowers. Domain Flowers are mindful florists, they re-use their husks, pods, seeds and branches of plants. They are also purchasing a mulcher so that the Collingwood Children’s Farm, an organic community garden, can reuse any unused organic material. Such an eco-friendly florist!
I first encountered the beautifully re-crafted jewellery label Ghost & Lola at French High Tea, in this post. Every Ghost & Lola is made entirely of nothing new because every piece of vintage jewellery deserves a second chance at rebirth. The designer gathers all the jewellery components from around the world and recreates them. I am deeply in love with the pink bracelet.

The stylish pack- Jane, in Chloe, Iolanthe, in Missoni and Kyra, in vintage and Cape loafers. Every girl who has a pair of ballet flats should also own a pair of Cape! Photo coutesy of Iolanthe.

My jaw hit the ground when I saw these rings, each made entirely from recycled aluminium cans, thanks to Miles Mason Trading Company. They are helping support Buy Nothing New month by showcasing these beautiful wall-mountable butterflies and swallows which are made of old household crockery. I think these laser-cut plates would be beautiful jewellery displays!

I do apologize that our beloved Chihuahua have not been featured on the blog for a while…here is Theodore in his smart little red cardigan that Bijoux, Kyra and Nish’s angora rabbit, who was very camera-shy, (hence we don’t have a photo of her) handed down to him. :D

Theodore in an obi (vintage scarf tied around like a belt), not enjoying the dress-up as much as we are…

The gorgeous Kyla, Lisa, Leeyong and me

Thank you so much Kyra and Nish for opening up your beautiful space for us, for your warm hospitality and for letting Theodore join us! Thank you Iolanthe for the delicious chocolate cake, dips and fruits. Thank you Jane for the French bubbly and everyone for the gorgeous company! I had such a delightful time and am really excited that we are all going to celebrate Buy Nothing New October ! It will be a challenge, especially for me… but I am going to do my best! Come visit me this Sunday at Take 2 Market (the best vintage market) in the Hawthorn Town Hall (Corner Burwood and Glenferrie Roads) so we can buy nothing new together!

Details of my outfit shall be revealed in the next post…until then, have a beautiful day! xx
