Made in Melbourne

by cecylia on September 10, 2010

Another event I attended at MSFW was ‘Made in Melbourne.’

I wore a Karla Spetic 3 twist dress at work during the day and didn’t have time to go back home to get changed into ‘cocktail’ so I decided to buy a frock from an Aussie designer from the boutique. It was either the black Innocence dress by Gail Sorronda or the white Jules dress by Karla Spetic…guess which one I picked?

I picked the black dress because the event was ‘Made in Melbourne’ and we’re known for our noir style.

The venue was at The Trust again, I wore vintage YSL necklace and belt; Aris Geldis Paris bracelet, Repetto booties and vintage Tippy clutch.

The event was to celebrate Melbourne designers whose garments are made in Melbourne. The designers on show included Caro, Mina & Katusha, Borsha, Lisa Taranto, NeoDia, Mario Liese and Silk & Ink. The most unusual look was from Borsha whose use of vintage fabrics looked more like material scrap-booking. The model is stunning though.

The best label was NeoDia, recent RMIT graduates Gavin Lowes and Becky Chua, whose sharp tailoring and architectural designs hit all the right notes and is going to go far.

This model is one to watch, the beautiful Jessica Rose, she will be one of our models for our boutique’s runway party, more on that later =)

The photo is a little blurry but she looks a little like Catherine McNeil here. So pretty and has such a strong walk. Really looking forward to working with her soon!

Since we’re talking about budding designers and models, I must tell you about the Fashion Open Day at Kangan Institute on 15th September 6pm. If you want to be a stylist, fashion designer or milliner- head down there for a great night!

Aside from seeing Jessica Rose and NeoDia’s designs, the real highlight of the night was meeting Yeojin Bae, my favourite Australian designer whose garments are unfortunately not stocked in our boutique. She is even prettier in real life. Told her about my favourite looks from her runway and later on wished I’d told her how good her haircut looked. She told me that she used to design for SABA, that explains how she got her fine tailoring down pat. Yeojin is good friends from Gail Sorronda!

Ah, finally the end of MSFW. I haven’t had dinner at home for over a week and my house is a mess. I wrote all these posts after midnight, when my brain is no longer functioning optimally and the only substances that keep me going are chocolate and chips- hmmm junk food…

Head over Heels for Repetto

by cecylia on August 4, 2010

When my customers told me that the Repetto heels are the most comfortable shoes they’ve slipped into, I believed them. But it was only after I bought myself a pair (the black suede Garbo booties), I understood just what the ladies meant – the Repetto experience.

The iconic ballet flat Parisian label has been making the finest, lightest dance shoes for over 6 decades. Only Repettos are hand-stitched in France. No other ballet flats are made in the same technique.

Repettos introduced heels a couple of seasons ago and because of their comfortability and elegance, heels are now a permanent addition to every collection.

Repetto shoes are always chic, because they make feet look beautiful and feel comfortable. They are not ‘loud shoes’, so they do not compete with the wearer’s clothes. Every Repetto devotee I’ve spoken to tells me this ‘I feel instantly chic’ when they slip their feet into their Parisian shoes. These shoes have adorned the peds of countless celebrities. Repetto has collaborated with many labels including Chanel, Comme des Garcons, Catherine Malandrino and many many more.

Cecylia is the largest stockist of Repetto shoes in Melbourne.

Mammoth Post

by cecylia on July 31, 2010

I cannot thank God enough for the arrival of Aris Geldis Paris jewelery and Antonia Goy’s garments. We are lucky enough to be her first and only stockist in Australia. This is her AW11 collection which means the garments are on our shelves at the same time, if not before, they are on the shelves of their European stockists.

Here are some piecies of Aris Geldis‘ jewelry to bedazzle you… They’re all made from gold or silver plated brass and Swarovski crystals.

The earrings are my favourite =) The gorgeous dresses are by Spijkers en Spijkers and the silicon belts are from Alldressedup.

I gave you a preview of the cape in my last post on Antonia. But here are the pieces in the ‘flesh’. All the garments are made in Germany. I have never come across clothes made in Germany before, except maybe  for some exquisite vintage pieces.  All the black dresses, leggings and capes are made from wool or wool jersey. They are so wearable and warm. The gorgeous printed kaftan dresses are made from silk georgette.

This is my favourite look – the cape is paired with Karla Spetic‘s velvet skirt and the mannequins is adored with an exquisite necklace made from real Swarovski crystals (they’re huge!) by Aris Geldis Paris. She looks demure, classy. Simple elegance, in a nutshell.

The mannequin on the left is clothed in one of Antonia’s stunning silk georgette creations, in rabbit print- can you see the rabbit head on the chest? The print of the dresses are in perfect symmetry. One is sure to stand out in the crowd and attract many many admiring glances in one of these creations. The dress can be worn belted, layered or free and flowing.

The black dress is ‘lined’, front and back. There are more lines on the back and when one moves in the dress, the lines dance. The mannequin on the right is also wearing a neck piece by Aris Geldis paris.

Here’s a close up =)

Antonia’s pieces are limited. Our capes were sold out within a week! I was going to wait some time until I purchased the Ruffle dress but I didn’t want to miss out again! So here it is, in the flesh..

I’ve paired it up with stockings with bows and Repetto booties. On my first day of wearing these booties, I stood for 10 hours straight. These French heels are the most comfortable shoes I own. The necklace is a vintage favourite.

Whoever is lucky enough to own anything made by her will attract many ‘compliments-per-wear.’ I cannot wait to see Antonia at Fashion week in Paris and try on her new collection!

xx

Olivia and Lily

by cecylia on June 25, 2010

At a previous post I told you about Karla Spetic’s Lily skirt, well now I will introduce to you ‘Olivia’, the jacket. You will see it been worn by our first Miss Mannequin, see below.

The second one is wearing a cashmere-blend coat by Karla Spetic. It’s the only one in the store. Underneath is anAlldressedup silk top with braid, which was show-cased on our Shop Chic Blog here, and these hot Spijkers en Spijkers pants.

Miss Mannequin on the right is proud to show case Gail Sorronda’s Chrysalis jacket. It is a silk dinner jacket with dramatic shoulders and sheer sleeves. I would wear it down the street with jeans in broad daylight. Some pieces deserve multiple appearances in life. The rose starry dress is also by Spijkers en Spijkers.

See the gorgeous print? You would have seen it on the  Lily skirt too.

This is Meg the Merino wool knitted cardigan, worn upside down. I actually like it even more this way. It’s more quirky and avant garde. I’m wearing the Lily skirt and my Marc Jacobs shoes again.

Another highlight this week is that we got chocolate mint cupcakes! New flavour alert! Come and try one or they’ll be gone! The weather’s been dreadful in Melbourne, it is so nice to see some colours injected into our wardrobes.

I hope you’re all having a lovely day. Hope the sun smiles upon you and the moon winks at your mischief.

Speak soon!
