LMFF Runway 7 presented by Cosmopolitan

by cecylia on March 25, 2011

LMFF has been insanely awesome this year. Ok I don’t actually have anything to compare it with. Because to be honest, this is my very first LMFF! Yeb, no longer a LMFF virgin! That’s because ast year I was at Paris Fashion Week, and the years before that…I was a full-time-vet with both of my feet out of the fashion door. But you’ve gotta admit, this year LMFF have really uped the ante. International guests alone have made our runways super stellar. And there have been so many ‘first-times’ this year especially with Fashion Full Stop – Retrospective of Australian Fashion and the Menswear Runway! I’m sure next year LMFF is just going to get even bigger and better. Can’t wait!

Thank you LMFF and AMPR for giving me front-row seats this runway and allowing Theodore to attend. Theodore was a little more fidgety during this parade for some reason. Louder music, perhaps?

I was so happy to meet Tullia Jack, the lady behind The Spirit of the Black Dress. I really wanted to attend those events but my schedule was too crazy that week.

Here are some of my favourite looks from these designers:

Wayne Cooper’s long romantic dresses – why save them for night? Team them with a long cardigan or a cropped blazer!

Maurie & Eve – I adore those lace shorts and the jumpsuit!!!

Joveeba- I’ve never loved blue more than I do now. And the addition of tan accessories is just so modern and right.

It’s difficult to miss this gorgeous bird – Jasmine of Friend in Fashion. You would have seen her at the Penthouse Mouse party too!

The Fashionising Team! Alan-Tania-Daniel, the trio that is rocking the fashion world around the globe. No kidding, I’ve never seen or taken a bad photo of Tania. She is stunning from every angle.

‘Family Portrait’- husband, Theodore and I

Even though I feel like a zombie from all the shows and trying to balance working at the vet clinic and at the boutique, I am on a fashion high. It’s the last day of LMFF and I already miss it! To show my love and respect, I wore the most out-there and runway-appropriate outfit I could find that still had my signature on it – a vintage jumpsuit with plenty of ruffles. This number was an eBay find and I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I received this jumpsuit in the mail.

Vintage jumpsuit, belt, clutch, bangles/Pinkie the Snail ring/Paula Walden ring/Scooter velvet heels

Ah I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my posts on LMFF. The blog posts from now on will revert back to its normal size (not so many photos) and hope to see you at the next fashion week- wherever that may be!

Milliner’s Soiree

by cecylia on October 17, 2010

I was invited to attend the Kangan Institute’s 2010 Milliner Soiree with guest speaker and original Australian supermodel during the 1950s and 60s Diane Masters . What a fun and frivolous evening it was!

I have always loved hats but never really had the opportunities to wear them much. I must admit I’ve never been to the Races! Partly because of work and partly because I’m not fond of betting on animals. But I’ve collected a pile of vintage head pieces in the past and thought I’d dust one off for the event. However I left home in a rush so I ended up wearing a bow and fishnet head band from Alannah Hill- not a milliner but a creator of all things colourful and ultra-feminine.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet the beautiful and stylish Diane and hearing her deliver her lovely speech in a posh British accent about etiquette in the 1950s. Apparently it was taboo to be on the streets NOT wearing a hat! How times have changed! She taught me an insider’s tip to wear a headband under a hat that’s too big. She quoted Coco Chanel by saying that just as perfume is the best compliment for a lady’s outfit, so is the perfect hat.

I’m wearing a vintage flapper dress with fringe detail. I haven’t worn it since my 21st birthday (a long time ago!) so it was good to give it an outing!

Look how amazing some of the hats were! The pink creation is just amazing. So is her jacket!

Kangan fashionable students modelling each other’s creations. Team spirit! Don’t you love their safety-pin dresses! I would so wear one to the Races…

The highlight of the night was meeting one of my favourite Melbournian milliner Ann Shoebridge (2nd from left). Such a stylish lady and her headpieces are heavenly sweet. Check out more of her creations here.

I met a beautiful young fashion designer student who had the most amazing hand-made necklace, completely from safety pins! Man how long would that have taken her!

Here’s my best friend in the entire world- my husband and I sharing a moment in front of our SLR baby. This event has increased my love for hats a thousand-fold. Expect to see more hats in my posts!

Meeting Pauric Sweeney

by cecylia on March 28, 2010

I had the pleasure of meeting my favourite bag designer- Pauric Sweeney. Being such a dork, I carried my bag there to show him how much I loved his design and patent leather. Here I am standing outside his show room in Paris, my stomach is full of butterflies.

A most gorgeous pug called ‘Shakra’ with a diamante collar and larger-than-life personality greeted me. He made me miss my boys at home so much. We spent the next 10 minutes talking about our dogs and pulling out photos from our phones.

I wore my vintage gold ring everyday in Paris. I always pack a small satchel of jewelry and only end up wearing a few pieces. Wearing my Callia cream coat and dotted stockings from Alannah Hill. The buckled shoes are a copy of Opening Ceremony ones from Nine West. They’re tall but very comfortable.

Out of a living room full of bags, this grey leather bag was my favourite. It is actually a back pack as well. And yes I have ordered it for my boutique for next season. Cannot wait for its arrival!

Pauric Sweeney used to be a fashion designer. One day, a famous journalist told him at the end of one of his fashion shows that he should concentrate on his bags. He took her advice and the rest is history. Pauric used to be the accessories designer for Jil Sander. I love his bags. He’s pretty cool too. In Chloe dress and vintage nude scarf.

Looks that Inspire

by cecylia on March 12, 2010

When I was raiding my already packed away winter wardrobe in search for the lightest and effortlessly chic outfits, I look no further to my Fashionista folder. I have collected hundreds of Street Chic pictures that inspire my day to day outfits. Because it’s still warm in Melbourne, I cannot imagine the windy and wet weather in Paris. So I consulted these when I selected my luggage wardrobe. I like to travel light and usually just pack a capsule wardrobe, to be honest usually my capsule wardrobe is still the size of a bit luggage case which most cannot swallow. But I’m going to Paris Fashion Week! I have to dress up! I have to have some freedom and variety! I don’t like to pre-plan outfits because I am extremely fond of changing my mind. I remember that I used to surprise friends on the day of every formal, ball, wedding (I stuck to my white dress but the reception dress was a last minute change as well), party and dinner that I’ve been to. I always change my outfit in the last minute.

So without further ado, below are some of my favourite winter looks right now which have inspired me to select my luggage wardrobe.

I am bringing my own Country Road slouchy pants and some booties.

I will be bring my black and white tweed Zara jacket. I absolutely adore this outfit. So ladylike.

I will be wearing plenty of black and opaque tights. Recently I got a really cute pair with little dots from Alannah Hill. I will be trotting around in them!

I will wear a long scarf and try to find this lady’s leather pants. They are killers!

I will bring some 80s inspired belts and wool dresses.

I will pose in front of gorgeous doors and bring a warm coat.

I will bring my black full skirt.

I will bring a voluminous dress and my slouchy leather jacket.

I remember commenting on this picture with ‘gorgeous but committed shoe sin’. She’s ruined the look with ugly Converses! But flats are a staple and I hope I brought some along to walk around all the shops in.

I will be bringing some patterned tights and a fur scarf. This chic rocks. I love everything she’s wearing.

I hope I brought the right mix. I’ll post daily outfits when I return! Hope the weather’s good in Melbourne! Happy birthday to my bestie Lisa!
