Clash of the Stripes

by cecylia on June 8, 2011

On the last day of RAFW, it was a lot less manic. There were a lot less photographers clicking away, less attendees at the shows and less crowded at the VIP bar :) To be honest, I was so tired, I skipped a few shows too. The highlight of Day 5 was watching the Raffles graduation show. You know how I love supporting young talented things.

My dear friend Samantha, of Bento designed this chic and practical checked wool jacket, I actually have matching pants at home and was tossing up wearing them or the blue Felder Felder leather skirt. In the end, the skirt won.

When I saw my friends from Melbourne here, I didn’t feel like I was in a foreign city any more. They remind me of home! Here is Micah, of Raww Blog, and Cheryl, the Business Chic Creator. So stylish! I’ve never seen anyone wear colour like her all week! Check out their coloured nails! Why chose one colour when you can have more!

Here is Lady Melbourne (right) with her new trend of ankle binders. I think they will take off! Wear a black pair and wait to be stopped in the streets about them. But yeah, Phoebe’s red Melissa shoes are absolutely stunning.

After the Raffles show, Leeyong, of Style Wilderness blog, and I started comparing notes. We both loved NOSNIM, the first collection showcased by Winson Tan. I can’t get this guy’s name off my tongue. Loving this space-age structural pieces. I love designers who focus attention to the cut of the garment, rather than the embellishment. See an excellent write-up about the young emerging designers here.

And this Bento jacket is also a cut above. I love the side pockets and the pink lining! I wore it with my white shirt, previously teamed with a gold leather dress seen here; vintage necklace, brooch, belt and bag; Felder Felder leather skirt (available at the boutique) and YSL pumps.

And that is the end of RAFW! Thank you Sydney for a fabulous week – great weather, great food, great shows and great friends.

Bisous!

Dhini’s Birth

by cecylia on May 27, 2011

The show that made my night on the 3rd day of RAFW was my dear friend Dhini’s. I was so proud of her, the collection was a breath of fresh air. It was titled ‘Birth’ as it symbolized a new chapter of Dhini’s life and creative energy. Lady Melbourne and I were stoked to run into each other. She just came up for RAFW. Tis great to see more bloggers from Melbourne on Sydney’s turf!

Seeing Oliver and Julien always brought a smile to my face. I always get wadrobe envy when I see him, I want those leggings! How much fun it would have been if Theodore had been there, our darling pooches would wave to each other across the catwalk!

Below are 3 of my favourite looks from Dhini – not from a buyer’s perspective, but from my own. There were many other looks I loved, like the mint sheer silk playsuit, but my camera didn’t get good enough shots of it. To see better pictures of Dhini’s entire collection, please click here.

Birds chipred, models glided across the runway, butterflies were everywhere, including in my tummy. I was in awe of this mezmerising collection. I have never seen the front row pull out their iphones so fast when the First Face appeared- none other than a Dhini devotee, Eleanor Bailieu, our premier’s 17 years old daughter.

Eleanor both opened and closed the show for Dhini and walked exclusively for her show. Eleanor is in year 12 and wants to travel after high school. Guess who will be designing her formal dress?

This is the yummiest mummy in the crowd, Alice, Dhini’s sales agent. Alice is also Marnie Skilling’s business partner and also represents Karla Spetic. Alice’s style always inspires me. Here she is wearing a Miu Miu jumper dress with Dhini leggins. Yesterday she also wore a  pastel blue jumper dress with Gail Sorronda leggings. No I’m kicking myself not getting a photo of her!

Richard Branson sure knows how to make an entrance, to Sydney. We decided to bask in his glory as Dhini’s show was totally fireworks-worthy also. I am sure that it wasno coincidence that the fireworks occured simultaneously as we cheered with our champagne flutes.

Dhini I am so proud of you. By the end of the show I had the biggest grin on my face and tears in my eyes. We all go through metamorphosis in life and you’ve morphed into a beautiful butterfly. I cannot wait to see the transformation your garments bring to everyone who slips into Dhini pieces. Congratulations my dear.

Fluorescence

by cecylia on May 25, 2011

The giant UV lights centre stage of the Magdalena Velevska’s show at RAFW evoked curiosity and delight in most attendees. I loved the crystal formation it took and reminisced about a childhood game of ‘pick-up sticks’. Turns out, the clothes were just as mind-blowingly beautiful.

I’m a sucker for pink and orange, and pleats. So this collection is right up there in my dream list. I loved the architectural lines and accordion pleats. Well done Magdalena Velevska. You know her name is phonetic so it’s actually really easy to spell :) Please click here to see her full collection.

In the last post, I said that I had something pretty cool to show you – well here it is. As I was uploading a photo of her centre piece onto Facebook, I got stopped in my tracks by some bloggers because my Roksanda Ilincic jacket decided to glow along with the UV lights.

Looks like great designers all have pink on their minds. If I got $1 for every compliment I received on the Roksanda jacket, I won’t need to work any more.

On a complete contrast is our Vogue Editor, Kristie Clements, in an all-noir ensemble. Love her jade earrings though!

I love the Style Stalker ladies, Rachel and Sue-Ann. 2 hotties and very smart business women. Their label is only 2 years old and already stocked over 250 stores globally. And they look like spring chickens! I’m besotted with Sue-Ann’s Style Stalker dress!

After Magdalena’s show, I caught up with talented emerging Aussie designer Anne Tu, of The Eleventh Hour, whom I blogged about here. We are the same age! I was under the impression that her label has been blossoming for a while now, but when she contacted me last year, that was her very first collection! I was amazed by her tailoring, I guess that’s the talent you get when you train under Preen. Anne is very driven and focused, I cannot wait to see her succeed.

Next up- Dhini’s show! Boy have I been waiting to see this collection!

Parade in the Gallery

by cecylia on May 23, 2011

Day 3 of Rosemount fashion week rocked. I attended 4 spectacular shows including Lisa Ho, Talulah, Magalena Velevska, and Dhini, which were all pretty amazing, and also I went to see Yeojin Bae’s collection (before her actual show!). Can I just say that lately I’ve been getting so many sweet comments about how lucky I am to go to all the shows/showings, but I get the feeling that a lot of people don’t realise why I attend the shows. I went to Rosemount as a buyer for our boutique, not as a socialite! :)

Lisa Ho’s show was hands-down the most impeccably executed show I attended during RAFW. Set in the glorious space of the Gallery of NSW, front-rowers included movie stars, television celebrities and many many fashion editors. I actually didn’t have a seat ticket, but just before the show started I was asked to sit, maybe because my jacket was too bright, next to Simon Lock! I didn’t realise who he was until after the show. Simon Lock is the FOUNDER of fashion week! And there I was, commenting on how much I loved his lizard skin blue shoes, without an inkling…

These are my top 3 looks, it took me forever to choose because everything Lisa Ho designs is so chic and wearable.

I’m suddenly over the mis-matched phase and have become addicted to matching, maybe because I’m maturing… totally digging the brights together.

My jaw fell on the ground when I saw these colours together – ingenius! Who knew that mint and mustard would be so irresistible! This ensemble is wearable art.

Tantalising tangerine on a figure like hers = goddess status

To see Lisa Ho’s runway in full, please click here to watch the video.

Thank you Gallery of NSW for allowing (ie not forbidding) us to take photos inside. My pink Roksanda Ilincic jacket should look familar to you, as seen in this post.

I’ve teamed it up Spijkers en Spijkers Big Star top and ski shorts. All are available to be purchased from our boutique.

When I got back to the OPT, I was delighted to run into darling Margaret (of Shine by Three) again. So young, yet so hip.

After Lisa Ho, I enjoyed the candle light setting of Talulah. I have something amazing to show you in the next post. Stayed tuned!
