Vintage

On your Marc

by cecylia on January 18, 2012

Being a visual person, I like to keep my shoes out of their boxes and display them as wearable art. I store my footwear collection on white bookshelves for clarity reasons. But due to restricted space and a horrible hoarding habbit, some of my treasured footwear have had to reside in their original cartons, hence I have neglected many fine beauties as of late, like these Marc Jacobs butterfly laceups. I haven’t worn them for over a year! Feel like a bad mother… Actually I’ve never worn this vintage fringe dress or the tweed coat before either come to think of it…it’s simply not possible to dress up as a vet.

The purse was a gift from my grandma- it is so intricately made, like most vintage pieces from decades ago. There are multiple pockets inside including a mirror and a coin purse, all joined together! They don’t make things like they used to…My grandma is currently holidaying in Shanghai at the moment, wish I could join her :)

So how do you store your footwear?

Don’t you just love street art? The bold colours, lines and topography are both visually awakening and mentally stimulating. Why have coffee when you can just wake up to graffiti? Applauses to this street artist. All great art and design is proof of a greater designer. We are so blessed to live in this intricately created world. Happy Hump Day lovelies!

Just in Case

by cecylia on January 16, 2012

I’ve been looking for an iPad case for eons. Was hoping that this vintage Escada clutch would fit my favourite gadget, but it is not accommodating enough; then a Chloe iPad clutch I had my eye on Net-a-Porter was sold out, I thought, this is the end!!! That is, until I received (finally, after waiting over 6 months) my Karla Spetic clutch! I’d ordered it after seeing it at Rosemount Fashion Week. The leather is so soft I think the juxtaposition of a hard electronic device inside it is just brilliant.

Not sure if you noticed, but my skirt is actually a top! :) Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Can you see where I disguised the spaghetti straps? This beautiful 2 toned Violet & I camisole is elasticised so I took advantage of the silken cami and pushed it down my waist (hmm this is sounding a little iffy) to serve me as a skirt with a peplum. Actually love it even more as a skirt. The elastic waist band allows me to pig out and the peplum adds ladylike charm.

Just had to show you the back of this Gasparre Cashmere top. The low back features a leather strip that keeps the sleeves in check. I can’t think of a more luxurious pairing of leather and cashmere, definitely a marriage in hedonistic heaven.

There’s nothing like great design.

Where: On route to have lunch with friends

Wear: Vintage sunnies, necklace (last seen here) and cuffs (previously worn here), Gasparre Cashmere dress (worn as top), Violet & I silk camisole, Karla Spetic leather clutch, Repetto slingback booties and wind

Lace is More and a Shoesales.com.au Give-away!

by cecylia on January 13, 2012

I’ve been craving for a pair of slippers for a while now, and despite seeing so many gorgeous embroidered velvet versions online, I wasn’t ready to part a small fortune for a pair I couldn’t try on. That’s why when I saw the heeled version, “Olive“, on Shoesales.com.au, I applauded the ingenious readaption of the highly covetable gentleman’s shoe into something more feminine but still highly practical. Although it is not embellished in any way, I am deeply attracted to the symmetry and contour of the shoe, plus it beckons for many DIY ideas! Well at least some vintage shoe clips have found their match! To say it was love at first sight would be an understatement.

Since “Olive” is a fine union of ladylike elegance and polished manly refinement, I decided to channel this fusion into my outfit as well. Teaming Christopher Kane lace, in conspicuous neon, and a tailored Alexander Wang tuxedo jacket dress, feminine jewellery and a manly briefcase (I bought it for hubby years ago, but he never use it), deemed an appropriate representation of my inner style philosophy. I call it ‘tomboy chic‘.

Since Shoesales.com.au has always been a generous supporter of Cecylia.com, they are once again giving away a pair of heels, this time, the black suede “Olive” pumps! If you fancy a pair, here’s how to score them:

  1. Add me to your circles on Google plus here or Like my Facebook page here (or you could do both! :) Thanks darl!
  2. Like Shoesales.com.au’s Facebook page here
  3. Leave a comment below with your shoe size
Best wishes dear friends! The winner will be announced on Wednesday the 25th Jan 2012!

Where: A stroll down memory lane

A Label Called Depression

by cecylia on January 11, 2012

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I encountered a store in Singapore called Depression. And if you check out their website, don’t be alarmed by ‘Welcome to Depression.’ The label is a hip streetwear brand that Singaporean youths embrace. Pieces come in serious tones like black, grey and navy and are available for men and women. The irony is that Depression pieces are meticulously tailored and ingeniously designed. I was drawn to the orderly architectural lines and shapes the collections offered. The label is the brain-child of an ex-Art Director cum Writer duo who were depressed by their corporate lives and desperately needed a creative outlet. Kinda like how this blog was born, you simply can’t dress up working as a vet.

The collections names include ‘Dysfunction‘ and  ’Birth Defects’. No joke. And each clothing tag is in the shape of a drip bag. Seriously cool, for the medical geek in me. So I came home with my favourite piece from the Depression store. How could I resist this upside-down dress? Stretchy cotton, machine washable and it even comes with an upside down pocket!

Decided to keep things simple – well in the colour scheme anyway. Baseball caps are back with a vengeance, or should I say, tomboy twist, so I embraced this practical trend with open arms. Caps are not just to be married with varsity jackets, wear yours with simple outfits like a shirt and skinny jeans, use it to dress down a frilly frock or with an upside-down-dress.

Where: visiting the bank

Wear: baseball cap (similar one here), Depression dress, Mimco scarecrow necklace, vintage tassel necklace and bracelets, Nina Ricci bag (last seen here), Diana Broussard heels

PS. The Ciccone lipsticks are on their way to their winners. Thank you for everyone who entered the last give-away of 2011. An amazing competition will be up this Friday! Trust me, you do NOT want to miss out.
