I’ve expressed my undying love for Vionnet before here. We’ve all heard of Gabrielle Chanel, but Madeline Vionnet was just as important as a female designer who liberated ladies in the 20s and 30s, if not more! The pioneering madam of the bias-cut left a legacy which inspired countless designers to drape fabric around the female form rather than just to construct a dress. Donna Karan, Roksanda Ilincic, Sophia Kokosalaki, even our home-grown Therese Rawsthorne and Willow have all created garments akin to Vionnet’s philosophy. So naturally I’m a little drawn to their new AW12/13 collection…modern, luxe and oh-so-wearable!
